At long last!  After much frustration and some despondency, the result of a corrupted file, Sylph has been re-painted.  It is now complete.



I am currently uploading the image to Zazzle, where it will be available on a variety of merchandise including prints, coffee mugs, mouse pads, clothing, and more.  Links will be posted when available.

Look below the cut for a step-by-step illustrative process of how the painting was made, and a larger-sized watermarked final image!



I had saved several JPG versions of the old file, including the background, so I decided to work with the background I already had and re-draw the character.

The sketch:



I then layered the sketch on top of the background, lowered the opacity, and traced over it with the ink feature, using colored "inks."  Then I made the sketch invisible, so only the inks showed atop the background.



I opened a new layer below the inks, and began to create midtone colors for my palette.  Then I painted the midtones at 100% opacity, just flat base colors.



After that, working on multiple layers with different brush opacities, I began putting in light and shadow to the figure.






I finished up with the hair.
