After a rather magical week visiting with friends in a quaint, unassuming northeast Texas town (magic can hide even there), I'm back home and ready to pick up where I left off with Art Things.

The wind is dragging an icy cold in its wake. We might actually get snow in a day or two, if it gets as cold as they say it will. This will be the fourth year in a row this place has gotten snow, if so. Such a thing is unprecedented.

I've been reading Karen Marie Moning's Fever series, and quite frankly, it's some of the most riveting urban fantasy I've read in a long, long while. Moning started off writing paranormal romance, which was enjoyable but a bit cookie-cutter, but this series is something completely different than her usual fare, and I'll say she's found her forte in this. The story centers on MacKayla Layne, an innocent, sheltered Southern girl who could have competed with Reese Whitherspoon for her Pretty in Pink status. She learns that her sister, who had been in Ireland, had disappeared, and after fighting with the police to get things done, she finally goes overseas herself to try to learn what happened. Only... when she arrives, she begins to see the Fae. And not the little fluttery, Tinkerbell types, either. She soon finds herself embroiled in a twisted, nightmarish, and mind-numbingly beautiful world that she never knew existed-- and discovers many unsettling truths about herself in the process. There is no clear-cut hero or villain, but all the characters have their light and their darkness to equally terrifying degrees. And they all change thoroughly within the scope of the series. It's intense and erotic, a bit uncomfortable at times, but completely addicting. This is book one.

I'm going to be writing some music this week, I think, in addition to attacking art projects. We'll see how that goes.

Till later, folks!
