So, today is my mother's birthday.  This means the majority of the day will be spent running all over creation.  We'll be going to Red Lobster for lunch, which sounds very good actually (cheesy biscuits!).  I wanted to bake her a cake (her favorite is coconut) but I forget to pick up a cake mix the other day, and every time I've tried to bake a cake from scratch it's wound up being rather brick-like.  Will have to pick on up when we're out today.  I hope to get a chance to work on some art this evening-- I have three more greyscale character portraits on the agenda, plus a color character illustration for Ellen Million's Portrait Adoption.

I'm going to be holding a vote this Monday to determine the next three crowdfunded pieces I'll be attacking.  I'm going to limit the voting to a single day's worth of sketches, though, to avoid the ratio of too many options to too few people that occurred in the last vote.

So, as I mentioned, the Rose and Bay Awards over at [livejournal.com profile] crowdfunding are open for voting, until February 29th.  Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] laffingkat for nominating Free Sketch Day for the Art category!  There is seriously a lot of talent showcased there in a variety of ways.  I've voted for two categories so far, and will be paging through the nominees over the next several days to decide who to vote for in the remaining categories.

Anyway, we're going to be leaving soon, so I'll wrap this up.  Hope everyone has a good Thursday!

[livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith has finished her microfunded free-verse poem "The Inescapable Agony of Being" based on a prompt I gave her.  It is about aliens who masquerade as human, far from home.  It is incredibly poignant.

Go, read!

Have an original role playing character, or an original fiction character that you would like to see realized in a drawing?

Each week on Wednesday and Thursday, I will open up for character portrait commissions.  These will be head-and-shoulders portraits.  Black and white portraits are only $5!

Color options are also available during Portrait Days at heavy discount-- see below cut for more information.

Today's Free Sketch Day is now closed; comments will now be taken to screened.  I will continue finishing up the last of the prompts today as I have the time-- I promise I'll get to each and every one of you by the end of the day!  Thanks as always for your participation, and hope you guys have a good evening.  :)

Good morning, friends list, visitors, and lurkers! Once again, it is Tuesday, which means that it is the (somewhat) weekly Free Sketch Day that I host on this blog.

So, come on in, make yourselves comfortable, and leave your one word prompts. I will create a free sketch for every prompt left. You can leave more than one prompt if you want, but do be aware that I'm only one person and that there are others waiting for sketches as well, so please be reasonable and considerate with the number of requests. :)  Today, as I have to handle a caretaker shift for an unwell family member, I will need to close for prompts at 3 pm CST; at that point I'll start screening comments for this post.

FSD (Free Sketch Day) will ALWAYS be free of the obligation to pay; however, I am going to add a Tip Jar to the bottom of each weekly post. The funds accrued from these tips will go to funding finished digitally inked and colorized artwork.  The last completed piece was "Frozen;" however, as it was not fully funded, the full sized image was released only to contributors and prints posted for sale on ImageKind.

Also, once a month, I will hold a prize drawing for one piece of free digitally inked and colorized artwork based on the FSD prompt of the winner's choice.

And that's about it. Have at it!

So today, in a desperate attempt to hold on to a sliver of sanity, I've opted to work in a Starbucks.  Let me tell you, this is like heaven.  I haven't been out just on my own in ages.  It is a bit distracting, but that's to be expected.  Also, the sunlight coming through the windows is making it hard to see what I'm doing.  I may have to turn this thing around so I'm facing the window before I start working on art.

I'm unsure what to work on, to be honest.  I'm between crowdfunding projects, and event days aren't here yet.  Oh!  I know what to do-- some character portraits for [livejournal.com profile] ellenmillion's Portrait Adoption site. I may do something in color to put up for "adoption."

Well, the sinus infection seems to have eased up a bit.  Still feeling a bit "bleh" but mostly better, I hope.

Will probably do Free Sketch Day next week, and Character Portrait Days.  I might also start a new crowdfunding project based on FSD prompts, but I might do that the following week instead.  Or maybe I can start work on two or three of the runner-ups that were voted for?  What do you guys think?  Several projects in the works at once, so people have an opportunity to fund and/or follow the ones they like the most?  Yes, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to work this crowdfunding model.  It's sort of new territory for me in practice, though I've been familiar with it in theory for some time.

Edit:  Also, I'm considering what to do about the exorbitant shipping rates on Zazzle.  Since I went ahead and bought a paid account on there, basic shipping is free for me, so I may just set up a page for people to pay here and let me manually ship their prints and other orders, rather than have them pay insane shipping rates.  Much cheaper for people wanting prints and such.

Caught up on the last of last week's character portraits today.  Both of these are [livejournal.com profile] timelord1's characters.   Left is "Firthlun" and to the right is "Adonais."  As always, click for larger versions.

"Frozen" is now available in print form on Zazzle and ImageKind.  Prices on Zazzle for Kodak photo prints start at $0.80, and prices on ImageKind for gallery-quality prints start at $10.99.  Framing is also available.

shadows_gallery: (Default)
"Frozen" is now complete!

Tomorrow, I will be uploading to Zazzle so I can send out photo prints to people who contributed to this project.  I will also upload it to ImageKind, so it will be available on a variety of professional-quality prints as well, including canvas prints.

I'm going to post a small, watermarked thumbnail version and a larger detail clip.  The image is half-funded; another $20 will completely fund the piece, at which point I will make the full size, full resolution file available for everyone to download for printing, desktop use, what have you.  Contributors also get a complimentary mini photo print from Zazzle if they so wish.

Thank you to everyone for your support and enthusiasm!

In searching for projects to nominate for this year's Rose and Bay Awards, I stumbled on this little gem:

(From the Wikipedia article) "Pioneer One is a 2010 American web series produced by Josh Bernhard and Bracey Smith.[1][2][3] It has been funded purely through donations, and is the first series created for and released on BitTorrent networks.... A mysterious spaceship enters Earth's atmosphere, triggering a massive response from the American government."

Just watched the preview.  It looks extremely well done!  I would nominate it, but it was released in 2010 and so isn't eligible this year.

Here's a link to the official page with the preview and free download links (streaming is available for a small financial contribution as well):

So it seems all this erratic weather we've been having has caught up with me in the form of an absolutely lovely sinus infection.  I literally spent half the day in bed with a raging headache and... other issues.  lol...

I'm terribly behind on artwork.  I might be able to put in a little time tonight.

I actually have a few posts I'd like to make here today, but my brain is mush and I'm not sure they'd be very legible.  However, one thing I plan to do today is to head over to the 2012 Rose and Bay Awards landing page and put in some nominations.  It's an annual award for excellence in cyberfunded creativity-- go, check it out, and if you know any crowdfunded projects (writing, webcomics, etc-- even patrons) that you think deserve a nomination, please go do so!

Another thing I wanted to write about, but just don't have the presence of mind to do in a coherent fashion, is ACTA.  I usually try to keep politics and such off this blog, but I think this is something that effects everyone, and it's not getting the attention that SOPA was getting.  This is an international (not just European) "Trade Agreement" that has many disturbing connotations for our rights both online and off.    Please take the time to read these links and do whatever it is you feel you need to do in response.

Okay, I'm off to start writing up some R&BA nominations, and then to hit the Wacom for some artwork.  Later!

Where has the week gone?  It just sort of melts away.

I have a couple of updates and reminders to post.

First, I've finished the flat colors for "Frozen"-- I still have to add varying hues, light and shadow, etc. I thought I'd post a cropped section of the image.   You can see where I powdered snow over the wings and body, which will be better blended to the rest of the snow when other colors are added.  It will still have that twilit look, but with a touch of color and a fading angelic glow.  It's currently standing at exactly half funded-- $20.  Another $20 will fully fund it so that the full sized completed image will be released to the public.  Upon completion, any contributors will receive a small print and the full sized color image in an email whether the project is fully funded or not.  It will also be available on ImageKind as a print either way.

As always, click thumbnail for enlargement.  (Remember, this is just a detail crop, not the whole image)

If you would like to contribute to this project, click the Tip Jar icon.

Also!  I am still open for Discounted Character Portrait Days!  Follow the link to the main page to put in your requests.  Had a bit of a hiccup with the PayPal link, but it's all fixed now.

[livejournal.com profile] moon_fox is holding a Character Art Jam at her LJ through Friday!  Pencil sketches are free; tips of $5 or more will fund colorization.

So, apparently all the PayPal buttons I've been using-- including my customized Tip Jar icon-- have been taking people to login pages rather than payment pages.  I made the buttons and deposited the html code into WordPad for easy access.  (sometimes.  The Tip Jar I'm using for my "Frozen" project is working right.  But the SAME code from the SAME WordPad isn't working on my Free Sketch Day post.  wtf?)

Based on what FIXES this problem, the fact that PayPal is linking to my "secure merchant ID" instead of my email address is what's causing the problem.  If I change the option to link to my email address, the link goes where it's supposed to.

I can't, however, figure out how to make that the default option.  So it looks like I may have to log into PayPal and fix it every time I post it.  Grrr.

I'll have to start testing it every time I post it, just to make sure.  The icon on my Character Art Days post is fixed; going to fix the one from Free Sketch Day too just in case.

ETA:  Okay, I think, MAYBE, that I've fixed it.
shadows_gallery: (Default)
Edit:  the Paypal button should be fixed now.  Sorry about that, guys!

Today's Free Sketch Day is now closed.  Comments are now screened.  I will continue finishing up the prompts that were left today, and will post them as comments here and to a separate entry later.  Thank you to all who participated today!

Good morning (or afternoon, as it were), friends list, visitors, and lurkers!

:) I'll stop taking requests at 5 p.m. CST; at that point I'll start screening comments for this post. Also, please allow time for me to get to your prompt, especially if there are a lot of prompters. I will make every effort to get to all of the prompts today; barring that, tomorrow. Again, it depends on how many prompts I receive.

FSD (Free Sketch Day) will ALWAYS be free of the obligation to pay; however, I am going to add a Tip Jar to the bottom of each weekly post. The funds accrued from these tips will go to funding a finished piece, either a refined drawing, an ink-and-color drawing, or a digital painting depending on how much has been put in the Jar. Note:  My current crowdfunding project is a digitally inked and colorized piece,"Frozen," so all tips will go towards that piece unless otherwise specified by the contributor.

Also, once a month, I will hold a prize drawing for one piece of free digitally inked and colorized artwork based on the FSD prompt of the winner's choice.

And that's about it. Have at it!

Good morning to you, friends list, visitors, and lurkers.  :)  How is everyone today.

I'm... rather out of it.  Somehow I ended up sleeping late.  I usually wake up without an alarm but my brain was like, "No way, lady, you're sleeping!" this morning.   I suppose maybe I needed it.  I've been up for a little while now but have not yet had coffee; it's brewing as I write this.  (And my coffee-deprived brain tried to type "write" as "right," to give you an idea of how completely "with it" I am before I've had my first caffeine jolt of the day!)

However, the situation with my grandmother is calming quite a bit.  She's able to walk with her walker by herself most (not all) of the time, and her bathroom trips have also decreased in frequency, so I'm able to put more time to the things I'm working on.  Consequently, I'm going to hold Free Sketch Day today!  I'm not open for prompts yet, because I seriously need that coffee first, but I'll put up the FSD post in a little while.

"Frozen" is being colorized.  Flat colors are complete!  I'll be adding shadow and light... possibly this evening, or in between FSD prompts.  The finished artwork will be sent to everyone who contributed to the project in both a high resolution file (or link to the image) and in a small photo print from Zazzle.  I'll also put it up for sale as various sized prints on ImageKind.  I'll post a small watermarked preview and some detail shots here along with the ImageKind link when it's ready, unless it's fully funded by then, in which case I'll post a link to the full sized file as well for public use.  :)

Tomorrow is another Discounted Character Portrait Day!  I'll be offering black and white, head and shoulders portraits of your characters for $5.  Color portraits will also be heavily discounted, so gather your character descriptions and drop by tomorrow to request your artwork.

Anyway, I think that coffee's probably about ready, so I'm going to close this for now.  Stay tuned for FSD!

"Frozen" is now inked!

This project is half funded.  Another $20 will fund the colorization.  All donors will receive a full sized image link of the final piece whether the piece is fully funded or not, as well as a 6x4 photo print from Zazzle if they choose to opt in for it.

Click the image to see a larger size.  Click here for a full sized inked image:  http://amyla.webs.com/frozeninks.jpg

Click the Tip Jar icon if you would like to contribute to this project. Please remember to give your LJ username and specify that you're helping to fund "Frozen" so I know who contributed and to what.  Also, if you would like one of the prints mentioned above as a donor perk, please PM me to let me know where to send it.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
